Acupuncture Before Egg Retrieval and Embryo Transfer
If you have searched for whether to have acupuncture before or after your embryo transfer, you have probably found a lot of confident claims and not much honesty. Here is the straightforward version of how the timing works and what it is realistically for.
How the timing works
Acupuncture around egg retrieval and embryo transfer is used as a relaxation aid, to help ease the acute stress of these high-pressure clinical windows. Sessions are commonly scheduled in the days around retrieval and around transfer. The important part is coordination: timing is arranged in step with your fertility clinic's schedule, and never in a way that interferes with your medical procedures.
An honest word on what it can and cannot do
We do not claim that a particular protocol or session timing guarantees implantation or prevents miscarriage. The evidence does not support those promises. What acupuncture offers at this stage is a calmer, more supported experience during a stressful process.
What to expect
Tell us your retrieval or transfer dates and we build the timing around them. Your practitioner is a registered acupuncturist who will keep the focus on helping you feel as settled as possible through the cycle.
Cost and coverage
A first visit is a 75 minute initial treatment at $150, with 60 minute standard treatments at $125 after that. Acupuncture from a registered acupuncturist is not covered by OHIP, but to claim under your plan's acupuncture benefit, most insurers require a CTCMPAO-registered R.Ac or R.TCMP, as all of ours are. We direct bill most major insurers through TELUS Health eClaims, so where your plan allows it, you pay only your share at the visit.

Yi Ling holds a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from UM, Southwest Free Medical University (Sichuan) and practiced Western family medicine for six years in Malaysia before undertaking formal TCM training in Canada. Yang Wang is a highly skilled, dual-trained medical professional and fifth-generation TCM practitioner. He holds a Master of Surgery from Peking University and served as a Urologist at Beijing Renhe Hospital for 13 years. He completed an intensive two-year Western Medicine to TCM program at Beijing Xiyuan Hospital and graduated from the Ontario College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (OCTCM).
